Since 1985, when I began living in Istanbul, I admired the original wooden houses. Many of them no longer exist. But I realized my dream was to give them back their ancient splendour, saving and restoring them.

The first object of my dreams is in the district of Sultanahmet, where Villa Hagia Sophia is located. That house was for a short time the residence of the second president of the republic of Turkey. It also was the scene of many movie productions of the Yesilcam movie company in Turkey.

That house is Villa Hagia Sophia; now an excellent All Suite concept boutique hotel in the very heart of Istanbul, Sultanahmet.

Using some original parts, in good condition, Villa Hagia Sophia Hotel has been carefully rebuilt in two years in its historical outfit. In Villa Hagia Sophia you will feel at home, but also find part of the ancient ambiance of Istanbul. The saloon on the upper floor of Villa Hagia Sophia Hotel has an Ottoman carved ceiling, while the couches and the garden of the hotel will invite you to spend many relaxing hours.

From Villa Hagia Sophia Hotel; In only two minutes you can reach the Marmara Sea and the byzantine fortifications. There you have a beautiful view on the Asiatic part of the town and the Bosporus-bridge. Taking a walk for kilometres is an option. You may visit the ancient cistern below the palace of Nakkas Hali, close to the hippodrome in the Historical Peninsula, old city Istanbul . On the terrace you may enjoy a marvellous view on the harbour of Yenikapi, where sunken ships have been recovered.
